If you’ve been training for any period of time you will surely have heard about creatine supplements. Like protein powders, these type of supplements have become very widespread nowadays and are used by many people, attributed of course to the fact that they are very effective.
Creatine is a naturally occurring amino acid that most people already consume through meat products; the problem is that when such products are cooked most of the creatine is destroyed in the process and thus they end up taking very little. Most people consume only 1 gram of creatine daily from food so creatine supplements are a very valuable option.
There are many such products on the market nowadays but in this post, I will review Optimum Nutrition Creatine Powder. Using my 7 years of weight-training experience I will evaluate this product and hopefully give you a good insight into its many benefits.
Let’s get started shall we?
Optimum Nutrition Micronized Creatine Powder Benefits
The supplement industry has grown considerably over the past couple of years and is now flooded with lots of different companies. Each company will claim that their products are the best, which is to be expected of course, but we all know that not every product can be the best. An uninformed person can find it quite difficult to choose a good product, but one of the sure-fire ways to sift the good from the bad is by looking for and reading reviews.
This particular creatine powder is made by Optimum Nutrition, one of the most respected brands in the bodybuilding world. With very high-quality products such as their Gold Standard 100% Whey, it is no surprise that their creatine product is of the same top-notch quality. Many of you may not know this but there are many different types of creatine out there. Optimum Nutrition Micronized Creatine Powder uses creatine monohydrate which has been proven study after study to be very effective.
Of course, besides different types of creatine, there are also different levels of quality. Chinese creatine for example is generally of a very low quality as it is loaded with unwanted things such as sodium, creatinine, dicyandiamide, and dihydrotriazine, whereas German creatine is quite the opposite. The creatine used in this product, known as CreaPure, is made by a German company called AlzChem which uses a patented manufacturing method that results in an odorless, tasteless, and micronized powder that dissolves super-easily when mixed with water or juice. Because this powder is so fine, you will not face any of the usual problems associated with low quality creatine such as clumping at the bottom of shaker, bad taste, or gritty texture.
Speaking of flavor, you should know that this product doesn’t actually contain any. This may sound strange for people that never used creatine, but it actually makes a lot of sense. You see most people mix creatine with grape juice or with their protein shakes, which already have their own taste. If the powder itself also had a flavor, you would probably end up with an unwanted clash. This product comes in multiple sizes with the largest of which providing the best value: 150 grams – 2000 grams.
Making Effective Use Of Optimum Nutrition Micronized Creatine Powder
Although loading is not required when taking creatine, it is a highly suggested practice by many people including myself. Loading is when you consume a high dose of creatine, such as 20g a day, for about a week, followed by a 5g maintenance dose for a longer period. One scoop of this product gives you 5 grams of 99.9% creatine monohydrate, so that makes 4 scoops for the loading phase (split throughout the day) and 1 scoop for the maintenance phase.
When mixing this product with grape juice (or any other juice for that matter) try to take 100g for each 5g of creatine. When mixing it with your protein, try to get 50g of protein and 50g of carbs (in a 1:1 ratio) for each 5g of creatine. Both of these methods help your body absorb the creatine better so incorporate them whenever possible.
That’s all for this Optimum Nutrition Micronized Creatine Powder review guys; what do you think?
